Awareness in Young Generation

Awareness is just a word with many meanings and
perspectives. When we talk about awareness, sometimes we couldn’t distract from
the word national. Every nation has their own way to show their awareness to
their country. While in Indonesia, people shows their awareness with many ways.
Before we explore more about the way people in Indonesia shows their awareness,
it would be better if we know what is the meaning of awareness itself.
Awareness based on Cambridge dictionary is understanding
a situation or subject at the present time based on information and experience
(Cambridge Dictionary:2008). Young generation especially in Indonesia is a
young people with spirit, dreams, and hopes. We as a student is also a young
generation who expected to have a high nationalism and patriotism. This is aims
to keep the unity of the nation.
Our nation Indonesia is a country that consist of many
islands with their beautiful nature inside. We must aware of this because if we
loose attention we could be stolen by another country. So it is very important
to keep all our culture heritage and it’s riches. If we could see back to the
past years ago, our heroes was fighting for the Indonesian independence from
the colonizers. We must see from this event that the young generation must know
about this and appreciate our past heroes who has been fought and freed from the
colonizer so that we can live happily right now. There are many ways to remember the past
heroes in Indonesia that sometimes held by our young generation. Usually in
celebrating Indonesia independence day, on 16th August we held an
event called as tirakatan. Tirakatan means praying and reminding
the value of independence and we do the napak
tilas to apreciate our heroes. Napak
tilas is walking through the village or specific ways in the event of tirakatan. But, if we could see the
situation in nowadays, is there still any young generation who has the spirit
of nationalism? Do they know who are the heroes that has declared our
independence? Do they know how was the history of the fighting by Ir. Soekarno
and his friends?
